Cypress Infant School sits perched on a steep hillside and is surrounded by mature woodlands in South Norwood, London.
Erect Architecture designed a playable ramp that connect the play terraces of the Children’s Centre to the main access route and the glade. They provided conceptual designs, construction drawings, and a series of connection details engineered by Built Engineers.
Duncan & Grove manufactured and installed the ramp on site. Steel shoes were used to raise the timber uprights of the ground to increase the longevity of the structure. The structure was made from larch. It consists of ramps and steps, tunnels, toy chutes, dens and nets, creating multiple routes and instances for play. The feature turned a previously inaccessible terrain into an asset of the children’s centre.
