OVERVIEW

Duncan & Grove is proud to have contributed to the transformation of Claridge Way in Thamesmead, south-east London. Collaborating with Jan Kattein Architects and Peabody, this project turned a neglected Tarmac path into a vibrant public space shaped by the local community. Once referred to as the “black path,” the 500-meter stretch now features playful floor markings, fitness benches, woodland trails, planters, and colorful murals, making it a hub for play, socializing, and relaxation.
Our role included designing, fabricating, and installing the fitness equipment benches, play hut, and signposts, which have become key features of the space. The benches double as seating and informal play structures, while the woodland trail offers treehouses, bug houses, and logs for climbing. Planters with fruit trees and wildflowers add greenery and support biodiversity, creating a welcoming environment for residents.
Since its completion in 2020, Claridge Way has reconnected the community with their environment, fostering a sense of ownership and pride. Residents now use the space to gather, play, and enjoy nature, transforming it into a vital part of the neighborhood. This project reflects our commitment at Duncan & Grove to delivering high-quality, sustainable play and fitness equipment that enhances public spaces and communities.
